::The Program

Approximately six months prior to being released from jail or prison, inmates may request a House of Hope of Alachua County Application for Admissions from the Chaplain of their respective corrections facility. Completed Application for Admissions received by the House of Hope of Alachua County are immediately forwarded to members of its Screening Committee for review. The Screening Committee carefully verifies the contents of the submitted Application for Admissions to make sure the Applicant is qualified for program participation.

Upon successful completion of the initial Screening Committee review, the Applicant must provide a personal recommendation from his facility's Chaplain of the applicant. If the Chaplain's comments are positive, a personal interview of the Applicant is scheduled. These interviews may be performed in person or by telephone depending on the location of the Applicant and the circumstances at the time. The Applicant is interviewed by a member of the Screening Committee and the Executive Director. The results of this interview provide the final evaluation of the inmates Applicant for Admission.

If accepted, the Executive Director confirms the guest's release date and makes initial preparations for their arrival. Upon release, a representative of the program, usually the Executive Director, picks up the new guest at his facility or the Gainesville Bus Station and brings them directly to the House. Applicants are provided clothing and other basic necessities as required. Volunteers often assist the program in providing these items.

Upon arrival at the House, the Applicant is provided a complete orientation to the lifestyle requirements of the Program. This orientation includes review of the house schedules, protocols and procedures. Guests are assigned chores in order to keep the house clean and orderly. Guests are required to shop for groceries, prepare the meals, and maintain common areas. Areas churches and individuals often provide gifts of dry goods, canned foods, and desserts foods for the House guests.

Fiscal responsibility is a crucial element in our program. Guests are required to establish a savings account for holding their paychecks and other income deposits. Similarly, guests are required to seek immediate, full-time employment and are allowed to work every other Saturday.
